πŸ’™ From Sad Blokes to Well Men πŸ’™
It's time for a serious rethink in how we prevent male suicide β€” and to take suicide in men **out of the too-hard basket**. This full-day workshop, landing in the **Month of Movember**, offers a comprehensive critique of why the suicide rate in men remains high despite countless prevention initiatives β€” and what actually works.

Drawing on sociological and gender analysis, the workshop explores how shifts in gender roles and expectations, labour market changes, economic reforms and relationship status affect men's sense of identity and purpose β€” from **anxious boys through to lonely old men**, tracking male suicide across the lifespan. It asks: are traditional notions of masculinity meeting the needs of men in 2026? And it maps a **holistic vision for men's wellbeing** with key messages that actually land.

When assessing suicide risk in men, social and cultural factors β€” ethnicity, age, sexuality, colonisation, intergenerational trauma β€” matter just as much as psychological ones. You'll leave with practical, time-proven approaches for **preventing male suicide, engaging with a suicidal man, and optimising men's wellbeing** β€” because well men contribute to well whānau, communities, workplaces and society.

🎀 **Presenter: Barry Taylor** β€” internationally respected, award-winning male suicide prevention specialist with 37 years' experience, drawing on lived experience and extensive work with suicidal men of all cultures, ages and sexualities.
